CALD (Culturally And Linguistically Diverse)
Bowls is a sport that is played all over the world across many Culturally And Linguistically Diverse (CALD) countries and backgrounds.
In Australia, many bowls clubs are opening their doors to people of all cultures. Clubs such as Footscray Park conducted the 'living in harmony' program, as shown in the picture (right).
To find out more information on opportunities for CALD persons to participate in the sport of lawn bowls, contact your state/territory association.
STA case study: Bowls Victoria multicultural program
In 2009-2010 the ‘Victorian Multicultural Bowls Program’ was expanded to include additional host venues, Burden Park and Dandenong City Bowls Clubs.
The Victorian Bowls Multicultural Program, now in its fourth year is designed to assist migrants and refugees assimilate to the Australian culture – while equipping clubs with the skills to adapt to the changing demographics of their local community. During the eight week program the ASC had been following the progression of the program to track what bowls was achieving with the newly arrived multicultural members of the community.
Below is the footage that was captured during their visit to Burden Park Bowling Club.
