Taren Point’s Ron Harrington will compete at the Australian Indoors...

The up-coming Australian Indoor Championships at Tweed Heads will feature not one but two Taren Point representatives after NSW qualifying at the weekend.

While the presence of Commonwealth Games gold and silver medallist Wayne Turley in the main draw will surprise few, club teammate Ron Harrington does not quite possess the same profile, but is ready to fly the flag for the Point after advancing alongside some of the game’s biggest names including Turley and former world champion Jeremy Henry.

The remaining NSW qualifying positions have been filled by Australian A squad member Brody Pitham, along with former qualifiers Lee Stinson and Ray Pearse, as well as Eric Ryan and Richard Hadley.

“It was good to get through, I haven’t been up there for a few years,” Turley said.

“But I’m rapt for Ronny.”

Just shy of his 80th birthday, Harrington boasts past form on the Bowls Australia grand prix circuit, partnering Robert Hood to an upset opening round victory in the men’s pairs over Turley and Kelvin Kerkow at the 2008 NSW Open.

The main draw of the Australian Indoor Championships will be held at the Tweed Heads Bowls Club from August 22 to 25, with inter-state qualifying continuing this week in Queensland and Victoria.
