BCiB Hall of Fame nomination information

Membership of the Bowls Australia BCiB Hall of Fame is the crowning achievement of a career in bowls and represents the highest level of peer recognition for an individual’s performance or contribution to the sport.

The BCiB Hall of Fame recognises and promotes the outstanding achievements of our greatest players and administrators. It will be an illustrious group of Australia’s most respected and celebrated playing champions, as deemed by the sport to be the best-of-the-best, or general members whose achievements have made a significant contribution to bowls and have been inspirational to all points of the nation.

BCiB Hall of Fame membership categories

BCiB Hall of Fame membership is divided into two categories:

  • Athlete members; 
    Athlete members are those who have competed at international competition level for Australia.

  • General members;
    General members are selected for excellence and outstanding achievement in roles supportive to the sport of bowls including administration, coaching and officiating, media and history, sports science and technology.

Eligibility criteria

Athletes
Nominees must:

  • Have represented Australia at international competition level;
  • Be superior achievers; and
  • Have the support of their peers.

The committee will consider the degrees of difficulty for a nominee to attain the highest level of achievement and in addition to that person’s individual achievements their integrity and sportsmanship.

General member

Nominees require a high level of achievement from personal effort or initiative in a field of endeavour that contributes to the development and status of bowls in Australia.

Nominees should have made a significant contribution to bowls at a state, national or international level or to bowls in general, including: 

  • Administration;
  • Officiating/umpiring;
  • Coaching/training;
  • Media/history;
  • Sports science/technology.

Long-term service or involvement in bowls by a nominee, without having satisfied the paramount requirements outlined above or to have demonstrated outstanding achievement arising from personal initiative or innovation, is not sufficient justification for selection

Nomination for the BCiB Hall of Fame

Nominees may be nominated in any of the following ways:

  • By a state or territory association;
  • By an affiliated club of a state or territory association;
  • By the Bowls Australia board;
  • By a Bowls Australia life member.

All nominations must be submitted on the prescribed application form with all sections completed in full. Application forms are available on the BA website and may be completed online or printed and sent by post.

When making your nominations please ensure that:

  • You select the correct form for your nomination;
  • You read the selection criteria thoroughly and that your nominee meets all requirements;
  • You use the relevant boxes on the form to provide as much information as possible. Forms  may be completed online or manually;
  • All sections are completed;
  • You attach copies of detailed citations; as these will assist greatly with the selection process.

Nominations which have incomplete information will not be processed.

Following the selection process successful nominees and their nominators will be formally notified and the successful nominees invited to accept membership into the BCiB Hall of Fame.

Submission criteria

  • Nominations are to be submitted biennially on the prescribed form, by the advertised closing  date.
  • Any nomination which has been previously submitted, but not selected, may be reconsidered  by the committee without resubmission.

Closing date for 2011 nominations

The closing date for nominations for the inaugural BCiB Hall of Fame induction will be July 31, 2011.

Applications sent by post must bear a date stamp of no later than July 30, 2011.
